Additional Information on Portugués Dam Project:
When Dragados of Spain, the pre-eminent builder of dams in the western world, was awarded the Portugués Dam, on the Portugés River near Ponce, Puerto Rico, there was no hesitation. Dragados turned to ConCool and its sister company, Plant Outfitters, LLC, to design-build the entire concrete production facility in the high humidity, tropical conditions. The system was required to ensure compliance with the placing temperature required by USACE- 55°F (12.8°C). Dragados contracted the design, supply and installation of aggregate conditioning storage, aggregate infeed systems, a 300T per day dry flake ice plant with 450T storage as well as 2 Niagara® Wet Belts, each one 300' (91m) x 60" (1.8m). This along with an ice delivery system and a sophisticated temperature control automation package ensured compliance for the contractor.
